7 Skincare Hacks for Flawless Summer Skin

Summer is here, and it's time to give your skin some extra TLC. With the rise in temperature and exposure to harsh sunlight, your skin requires special care and attention in the Summer months, to keep it healthy and radiant, and you looking your best.

Here are our simple yet effective tips that will keep your skin looking fresh and vibrant all season long.

1. Shield Your Summer Skin

Always top of the list, any Summer skincare routine must include applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, daily. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays not only helps prevent sunburn but also reduces the risk of premature aging and skin cancer. Apply sunscreen generously and reapply every two hours if you're spending extended time outdoors.

2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

The summer heat can leave your skin dehydrated, making it look dull and lifeless, so it's vital to keep it well-nourished and moisturised. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from within.

Additionally, opt for lightweight, water-based moisturisers that won't clog your pores. Hyaluronic acid-based serums are excellent for providing intense hydration and plumping up your skin – we’re happy to recommend some products to you when you’re next in the salon.

3. Cleanse Gently...

During the summer, your skin tends to produce more oil and sweat, which can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Look for products with ingredients like salicylic acid or tea tree oil, which help combat acne and control oil production.

4. Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, giving your skin a refreshed and radiant appearance. However, be gentle when exfoliating, as harsh scrubs can irritate your skin. Choose a gentle exfoliator and use it once or twice a week to reveal smoother, brighter skin. Or you could use chemical exfoliants like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) 1-2 times a week, which are milder yet effective.

5. Tackle Acne Breakouts:

The combination of sweat, heat, and increased oil production can lead to more frequent acne breakouts during the summer, which is so unfair! Incorporate a weekly clay mask into your skincare routine to target blemishes. Look out for those containing kaolin or bentonite, which can also help absorb excess oil, unclog pores, and mattify the skin. Plus, as ever... avoid picking or popping pimples, as it can lead to scarring and further inflammation - you know this!

6. Look and Keep Cool with a Refreshing Mist

Keep a facial mist handy to combat the heat and refresh your skin throughout the day. Mists that contain hydrating ingredients like aloe vera or rosewater are the best. Spritzing your face will not only provide an instant cooling sensation but also help to rehydrate your skin and revive your makeup.

7. Embrace Light Makeup

During summer, heavy makeup can feel uncomfortable and is likely to clog your pores. A lighter makeup routine will let your skin breathe. Use a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream with SPF for a natural and even complexion, and finish with a water-resistant mascara, a touch of blush, and a tinted lip balm for a fresh and effortless summer look.
